Portable Fiber Laser Welding Machine

The difference between laser welding and argon arc welding

May 18, 2021

Due to the rapid development of welding technology, laser welding machine equipment has appeared in recent years. The laser welding machine uses laser welding technology to weld various metal materials. At present, the laser welder has gradually replaced the argon arc welding machine. This undoubtedly involves the comparison of laser welding and argon arc welding, let us see where they are different.

1. Principles

  • Laser welding: laser radiation heats the surface to be processed, and the surface heat diffuses to the inside through heat conduction. By controlling laser parameters such as the width, energy, peak power and repetition frequency of the laser pulse, the workpiece is melted to form a specific molten pool.
  • Argon arc welding: On the basis of the principle of ordinary arc welding, the metal welding material is protected by argon gas, and the welding material is melted into liquid form on the welded base material through high current to form a molten pool, so that the welded metal and A welding technology in which the welding material achieves metallurgical bonding. Due to the continuous supply of argon gas during high-temperature melting welding, the welding material cannot be in contact with oxygen in the air, thereby preventing the oxidation of the welding material.

2.Applications

  • Laser welding: Laser tailored welding technology has been widely used in foreign car manufacturing; laser welding machine has been widely used in the electronics industry, especially in the microelectronics industry.
  • Argon arc welding: Argon arc welding is suitable for welding non-ferrous metals and alloy steels that are easy to oxidize (mainly welding of Al, Mg, Ti and their alloys and stainless steel); suitable for single-sided welding and double-sided forming, such as bottom welding Welding with pipes; argon tungsten arc welding is also suitable for thin plate welding.

3.Characteristics

  • Laser welding: no need to use electrodes, there is no concern about electrode contamination or damage. Laser welding is non-contact welding, with fast welding speed, high efficiency, simple operation, low use cost, long life, high safety, and more environmental protection.
  • Argon arc welding: The arc combustion of argon arc welding is stable, the heat is concentrated, the arc column temperature is high, the welding production efficiency is high, the heat-affected zone is narrow, and the welded parts have low stress, deformation and crack tendency.
